Book Summary:

Healers, Helpers and Guides: A New Dawn
by Bertie Ryan Synowiec, M.S.

If you want to know what Chiropractic care is all about from a nonjudgmental perspective, Healers, Helpers and Guides: A New Dawn is the book to read! What began as a two page testimonial for this patient, has now become the third book in a Healing Journey Trilogy.

In this incredible journey the author, Bertie Ryan Synowiec, M.S., experiences over forty-five healings, something, she later discovers is very common among Chiropractic patients. Surrendering and trusting her inner guidance, she falls in love with the mystery of Chiropractic and watches her thinking shift away from the medical model into the Chiropractic wellness model. With a heart and spirit that overrides her rich scientific background, she explains with words what can only be learned experientially through the Chiropractic adjustment.

As she travels around the country for three years, she takes the reader behind the scenes to Chiropractic conferences where she listens, hungry to learn about Chiropractic Philosophy. Chiropractic care is not complementary alternative medicine (CAM), although it is often listed as such. It is an alternative to the practice of medicine except where emergency surgery is required. Chiropractic care is first, medications are second, surgery is third - in that order! By correcting the misalignment of the vertebrae of the spine, Chiropractors go after the cause of dis-ease which is nerve interference. They do not diagnose. It is the Chiropractic adjustment that frees the body to heal itself, as it was created to do.

Bertie's Chiropractic story is told with great sincerity. In the end she is convinced that if medical doctors understood the healing power of Chiropractic, they would want to know more about this wellness care. After only five years in care, the author feels alive and well with a clarity in mindbodyspirit she never believed possible.

A year ago she thought her Healing Journey Trilogy was complete. God had a different plan and made her wait a year for the closing chapter. When it came, it arrived with such a force that many of her questions were answered and what had immobilized her, disappeared, revealing her true purpose and mission in life.

This delightful, intuitive book of spiritual growth and physical wellness inspires readers to keep reading. Bertie's loving connection of mindbody healing, which comes from God through her heart to all who are ready to hear these beautiful messages, is loud and clear. God's healing energy ignites the power within each of us to heal ourselves. Kathleen Rusin Acker, Editor and Author, Love Takes Time

Understanding, appreciating and realizing the power of healing through Chiropractic, giving the potential of the body to heal itself through the adjustment, needs to be understood by a very "sick" world. Get this book to the world. Jim Sigafoose, D.C., Author, Good Medicine

A New Dawn is an "awakening" for the reader, just as this continued journey, the latest installment of her Healing Journey Trilogy, was for the author who lived and learned from it. Bertie's New Dawn opens up a whole new awareness of life and what Chiropractic is all about. It is not just a back adjustment. It is total health care that affects the entire being. Because of this book, I am going to go to a Chiropractor. I have never been to one. Your story has  shown me its power and truth. Healing From Head To Toe

While in Chiropractic Care for two years, 150 visits, about 30 hours of actual time and doing a few other healthy things like:

  • Trusting and believing in my doctor, the facilitator of my healing

  • Remaining centered, listening in silence and focusing on my healing process,

  • Exercising, however and whenever I wanted to, consistently,

  • Eating fruits, vegetables and even some junk food, moderately!

  • Drinking lots of filtered water,

  • Taking my colloidal minerals and vitamins daily,

  • Keeping my appointments, (and sometimes rebelling, but not anymore!)

  • Listening to motivational speakers and positive books on tape,

  • Having confidence in the power of prayer and my purpose in being here

  • Oh yes, and writing my book, Healers, Helpers, Wizards and Guides: A Healing Journey about my healing journey back to wholeness in mindbodyspirit.

The following changes took place in me from head to toe, as I put me in charge of my life and took responsibility for the outcome of my health.

  1.  Curly hair returned (after almost thirty years) and became much thicker

  2. Smooth complexion that glows without wrinkles (most of the time!)

  3.  Stopped holding water and switched from an antiperspirant to a deodorant (second month)

  4.  Headaches, I had for many years went away completely after the first eight months in care

  5.  Sharp pain over my left eye disappeared having been there on and off for thirty years

  6.  Sense of smell came back (after thirty years) - 20% right away and 100% after twelve months

  7.  Continuous neck and shoulder pain and stiffness went away (seventh month - three times a week)

  8.  Compete neck movement in both directions came back (eighth and ninth month)

  9. The hump at the base of my neck disappeared (eighth month)

  10. The reversed "S"- shape to my neck (my old injury) has corrected itself

  11.  Neck muscles strengthened so I can position my head over a book to read without pain

  12.  The eczema on my hands for twenty-seven years is completely gone (after two years)

  13. The ability of my body to rapidly heal any small cuts or injuries became very evident

  14.  Menstrual cycle returned (second month) and then left, peacefully, as it was to, three months later

  15. The Fibrocystic disease I've had in my breast for thirty years vanished in the sixth month

  16. Bronchial asthma (exercise induced) disappeared along with my need for medicated inhalers

  17. Lost my need for aspirin, antihistamines or any medicines during these two years

  18.  Learned to pay attention to my breathing using it to bring me back
to center when I felt distracted

  19.  Heart palpitations stopped immediately with an adjustment and stayed away!

  20.  An esophageal constriction that happened, occasionally, completely went away (fifteenth month)

  21.  An abscessed tooth pulled and replaced and gum healed (sixth month) after a three year irritation

  22.  Hemorrhoids disappeared (fourteenth month) after thirty years

  23.  Hot flashes changed their "personality" four times during these two years, always pleasant, except for ninth and tenth month when they burned and felt angry. . . maybe reflective of my concerns!

  24.  An occipital release of bottle up emotional feelings of entrapment let go through my Crown Chakra in the fifth month sending energy in all directions within my body

  25.  Two months later I learned to use yoga and more exercise to focus and center this released energy

  26.  Through the use of guided imagery, feelings of lightness prevailed from within, as I, successfully, stepped off the emotional roller coaster with its highs and lows that had been there through my lifetime

  27.  Require two hours less sleep a night; (fifth month) making my day two hours longer

  28.  No longer am I tired; to energize I learned to breath deeply, consciously centering myself and breathing rapidly ten times through my nose.

  29.  My clarity of thought returned along with my short term memory and sense of connection

  30.  Replaced my overall early morning weakness with a strong sense of balance

  31. The strength in my right hand returned (seventh month) and bones out of place were put back

  32.  My legs, arms and back muscles again became strong, tight and supportive like I was young again!

  33.  "Referred pain" on the opposite side of my healed broken ankle disappeared

  34.  Abdominal fat cells turned to muscle - as my daughter said they would, if I did crunches. . . one at a time until I got them right! I did them in the early morning before I got out of bed along with stretches!

  35.  Lost fifteen pounds the week I thought I finished my book (seventeenth month) when I realized I could make it one hundred percent true and one hundred percent the truth without hurting anyone, just by owning all my feelings and choices (I actually finished the book in the nineteenth month).

  36. Healed my relationship with my husband of thirty-two years with unconditional love and not resistance and healed my relationship with my church by going to a church where I knew no one.

  37.  My food cravings stopped, as I healed the empty spaces in my life with tearful emotional releases that came from out of nowhere, straight from my gut, on more than one occasion

  38. My Attention Deficit became acceptable to me when I acknowledged it, as part of who I am, and I began to work with it and love what it gives to me, rather than fight it!

  39. Developed a genuine consciousness of my posture and the way I sit, stand and walk

  40.  Learned to trust my instincts and to know that what I know, I know and that I can speak my truth

  41. Accepted God's time for the healing process to take place and learned to let go of my need to control this natural process in my time . . . that wanted it to be done yesterday!

  42. My arm, my almost broken wing, was put back in place and put back in place again until it got it and stayed in place . . . much like the muscles of my neck, revisited (months: seventeen to twenty-four)

  43.  Stayed focused on my own healing, detached, and let go of my need to fix the world out there

  44.  Developed an inner sense of calmness and safety that gave me permission to just be and not to always be doing!

  45.  Practiced being me without the fear of the judgment of others and received a clarity in mindbodyspirit that took me places I never expected to travel and brought me back to my purpose and mission in life.

Changes within that helped connect me with the healing process . . .

  1. I let go of what I could not control in my life! (I did not want to be a patient, but I wanted to heal!)

  2. Then, I let go again of what I could not control in my life - the issues of time!

  3.  I continued to let go of what I could not yet control in my life - my feeling of entrapment

  4.  And still needed to let go of what I could not control in my life - my fears of dependency.

  5. I then let go again of what I could not control in my life (my need to change others) and learned:

  6. That right where I am is where I'm supposed to be.

  7.  All I get done in a day is all I'm supposed to do.

  8. Who I am and what I do does not depend on what other people think of me.

  9.  I can remain focused on my own healing and not compare myself and how I do things to anyone.

  10. I have every right to ask for what I need, even when others might not understand.

  11.  I can give myself permission to take as much time for myself, as I so willingly have given to others.

  12. I then understood how important it was to embrace with love and gratitude those people, places and things that I could not control and to accept how their place in my life, lead me to my purpose and mission. These were truly my Healers, Helpers, Wizards and Guides who came into my life at just the right moment to help me heal and grow and bring me to a new level of understanding.

  13. Through this process of letting go with love, I found the answers to my questions in silence within and what remains in the peacefulness is a faith in my God that everything is as it should be and that

  14. All I will ever need along my life journey will come to me . . . as this healing journey continues!
